Jacqui Barnes was born in Yorkshire, England and moved to Washington State in 2006.

After leaving a career in IT to have four children, she needed a new focus in life and decided to follow her passion and paint.

Working primarily in acrylic on canvas or board, she favors the medium for its flat, even finish, versatility and quick drying time.

Generally, she paints objects that have an aspect she finds visually or conceptually appealing, often finding inspiration in nature and biology and anything slightly macabre. Recently, she has been particularly interested in inanimate human forms, such as dolls, puppets and mannequins.

The style of her paintings make the subject the focus while keeping the background detail minimal. Her work regularly features vibrant color contrasted with areas of black. She often chooses to paint across two or three canvases so the subject of each panel still commands its individual space as well as forming part of an expanded scene.

So far this year, she has exhibited work at Parkplace Gallery, Kirkland, Ida Culver House, Broadview, and will be Artist of the Month for November 2017 at Museum Quality Framing, Magnolia.
